Bike Lanes
She saw on TV, the announcer asking why the bike lanes on the roads weren't being used and what the city was going to do about it. It was as if he wanted the government to get rid of the lanes so the cars could use the space. She wondered if the announcer and the government were stupid. It was obvious why the bike lanes weren't being used. She thought about the amount of money the government gave to the auto manufacturers so they could avoid bankruptcy. They didn't give it to bike manufacturers so people would get cheaper bikes. And she thought about the tons of car comercials on television. There aren't any commercials for riding a bike instead of using a car. Getting a car is a rite of passage for every teen, not bike riding. She and B rode their bikes. They didn't even own a car. She always shakes her head whenever she sees a driveway full of cars. There was a time when a family owned one car and one car only. Now look, everyone in the family has a car. Everyone. Shame.
