Bus Drivers Smoking On The Bus

Permalink 01/03/11 12:49, by admin, Categories: On The Bus
Pet Peeve: Smelling cigarette smoke on the buses in the mornings. The TTC has a no smoking policy in their buildings, subway and bus areas. There is a 500 dollar fine for violating this. Then why is it that every morning as I board either the 86 bus or the 85 bus the bus is filled with cigarette smoke? Why aren't the drivers told they have to get off their buses to take their cigarette breaks? It really pisses me off as a non-smoker to have to sit on a bus filled with cigarette smoke. If the TTC expects passengers to follow the no-smoking rules, they need to start with their drivers. I'm already pissed off enough in the mornings because I have to go to work, it doesn't help my mood, or my health when I enter the bus and have to smell cigarette smoke after I have paid my friggin fare.

adminFirst of all, it is against the law to smoke on a bus. If any member of the public smokes on a bus they can be fined 500 bucks and up. If it is against the law for the public to smoke on the bus why is it fine for the bus drivers to do it? Smokers always feel they have a right to smoke wherever they like. Well I should have just as much right to spray a toxic chemical in your face. It has the same effect except there would be much more of an uproar if I sat on a bus and started spraying hairspray over everyone. Yet smoke seems to be acceptable? Think about it.
